University of Georgia's Venturelab Awards Down to Earth Energy a Research Grant

(Athens, Ga - Dec 15, 2009) Stefan Schulze, Associate Director of the Georgia BioBusiness Center states "The University of Georgia, through the Georgia BioBusiness Center, strongly supports and endorses the research being conducted by Down to Earth Energy (DTEE) to develop efficient solid catalysts for biodiesel production.  We believe that the technology being developed by DTEE in collaboration with University of Georgia scientists has significant commercial potential.  To sponsor the further development of this promising technology, the Georgia BioBusiness Center has enrolled DTEE in the Georgia Research Alliance’s VentureLab program and a Phase I VentureLab contract has been awarded to DTEE.  Further funding and support may be made available as the company meets the goals and milestones outlined in the Phase I project."

Rick Huszagh, CEO of DTEE indicated that their company is very excited about the award and the continued collaboration this funding will provide in their work with the University of Georgia.

USDA awards Down to Earth Energy a Geothermal Grant

(Monroe, Ga - Oct 21, 2009) The USDA Rural Development Office announced a grant award of $20,000 to Down to Earth Energy for the installation of a geothermal unit that will reduce energy consumption in heating by 63%.

USDA awards Down to Earth Energy a Renewable Energy Grant of $112,000

(Monroe, Ga - Oct 15, 2009) The USDA Rural Development Office announced a grant award of $112,000 to Down to Earth Energy for the installation of of a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its production facility in Monroe, GA. It is the goal of DTEE (Down to Earth Energy) to be the first industrial biodiesel producer in the country with more than 40% of its electricity usage – equivalent to roughly 144,000 kWh/year – to come from carbon-free, renewable solar energy.  DTEE is evaulating a 100 kWp solar PV array and the potential for a 100 kWp ground-mounted, fixed-tilt array to provide roughly 150 MWh per electricity at the DTEE facilities in Monroe, GA.   DTEE has worked closely with RadianceSolar in the design and implementation of this system.

Small Business in Monroe, GA, Wins an EPA Research Contract

(Atlanta, Ga. – Feb. 5, 2009) EPA is awarding a $70,000 Phase I contract for biodiesel research to Mountain Creek Enterprises in Monroe, Ga., through its Small Business Innovation Research program. The contract is one of four “proof of concept” awards made in the Southeast to test the feasibility of the companies’ research concepts. If the results of this phase are successful, businesses can submit proposals for Phase II contracts, which can reach amounts up to $345,000 to help commercialize the technology.
