Company Overview

Founded in May 2008, Down to Earth Energy, LLC is a Georgia-based biodiesel research and batch continuous production facility serving the southeast region of the United States with clean, safe and cost-effective fuel for commercial and municipal fleets, the agriculture industry, and consumers. Every drop of biodiesel produced by Down to Earth Energy is fully warranted and EPA-registered biodiesel – meeting national ASTM quality specification D-6751. Down to Earth Energy, LLC is committed to a renewable, clean energy future for America.

History

Beginning in January 2003, Down to Earth Energy co-founders Rick Huszagh and Crista Carrell began micro production of biodiesel on their livestock farm to explore a more sustainable, environmentally-sound method of fueling their farm equipment. Inspired by their initial results, Huszagh and Carrell decided to expand their efforts with renewable energy to larger-scale biodiesel production. After bringing in co-founders and officers McKay Johnson and Tyson Johnson, the team began construction of the process facility in 2008 on 7.5 acres in Monroe, Georgia. Within one year, they had completed construction of the Down to Earth Energy facility; and produced the company’s first batch of biodiesel. Soon after, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) approved the Down to Earth Energy production facility to produce, blend, and sell ASTM spec biodiesel fuel.

To further their biofuel research efforts, Down to Earth Energy was awarded the USDA Renewable Energy Grant and established a collaborative biofuel research partnership with the University of Georgia. And in 2009, the company was awarded the Small Business Innovation Research Grant from the EPA – one of 23 businesses around the country to receive this prestigious grant from a field of 400 applicants.

Today, Down to Earth Energy continues to grow its customer base as the demand for biodiesel fuel increases as a smart energy solution for commercial fleet managers and everyday consumers. The company is actively pursuing research initiatives in partnership with the University of Georgia and others to enhance the biodiesel production process – making biodiesel fuel more efficient to produce and more affordable for Down to Earth Energy customers.
